       I've been tracking money in politics, particularly from hidden sources, for more than a decade. I'm also very cynical. Yet even I'm truly shocked by the stories we're seeing lately involving just plain failure to report massive amounts of money that create huge conflicts.

       Then of course there's Clarence Thomas. I mean the brazenness and the all-encompassing nature of the conflicts of interest. We've always known that people don't report certain things until they're caught, but this is entirely different in scope.

       Or hell, Trump, with his companies, raking tens of millions of dollars from special interests, foreign governments and wealthy donors to curry favor with him while he's in the White House. This is just getting out of control.
