heard a Santana song today and reminded me that I saw Carlos Santana in concert in the late 90s. But there were like 25 people on stage, a younger guy maybe 30yo sang the songs, and there were several women as backup singers too. Carlos came out to play guitar on famous songs then would disappear for 15min and return later on new songs to do some famous riffs. At the end of two hours I had to ask myself if I actually saw Santana in concert? It was a real Ship of Theseus kind of question.

@mathowie But (comic book guy voice) "Santana" is a collective noun for the band which you undoubtedly saw, even if you saw less of CARLOS Santana than you had hoped.

@mathowie I think I saw him (I MEAN THEM) in 1990 in Darien Lake, I don't remember Carlos leaving the stage that show, but a fun large band (two percussionists?) but I don't remember backup singers. He's always had a string of vocalists over the years I think.

@steveportigal @mathowie I saw Santana eating clam chowder a couple of years ago in Sausalito and he was all by himself. On the other hand he didn’t have a guitar either.
