Is really really dislike people who run red lights..If you cannot follow such simple rules you don't belong in traffic that's for sureIf I catch people doing it I try to shame them so hard they think twice next timeI don't really wanna die on my bike because of some a-hole in a car..This goes for bikes and pedestrains also btw, it's not that hard

@stux once had a car blow a stop sign to yell at me to stop while I was crossing in a crosswalk.

@stux Phoenix has broken records yearly for number of pedestrians hit and killed. Red light running is rampant. I think also annual records for wheelchair users hit by cars.

@stux I almost got killed on motorcykle by a madman in a car running a red light. He was speeding too.

@stux Just FYI, 'Safety Stop' laws in many localities (e.g. Colorado) allow cyclists to proceed through a red light. Also, traffic lights only exist because cars are dangerous. People on bikes and on foot do not need traffic signals, except to protect them from people in cars. Also also, Jaywalking is a made-up offence created by the auto industry to shame pedestrians and allow drivers to injure, maim, and kill with impunity.

@stux I once had a guy behind me in a hummer go around me when the light was red, and there was nothing I could've done differently (not only was the light red, I was turning left, and there were cars coming, so it's not like it would've made any difference!). What a bastard.

@AndiMann They are there indeed to protect them from cars 😉 If you run a red light with your bike there is a chance you'll get hit by car going for green, at least here in the NL so dont take the chance

@AndiMann Jaywalking is something different than crossing a red pedestrian light in a busy traffic area 😉 Differnent things! Jaywalking is total bs indeed

@stux Am with you on cars running red lights though. It is almost endemic in my town. I ride with cameras and report to police every time I see it.

@stux Just this morning a saw some impatient chucklehead in a Jeep speeding up to a red light to turn on red as I was crossing. I slowed down assuming they wouldn't stop, but they did slam on the brakes to stop before entering the crosswalk. Gave 'em a piece of my mind on the meaning of red lights as I passed.

I can see both ways of looking at it.There's no jaywalking (at least enforced) where I live, and it's really annoying when people just randomly cross the street and you're like swerving because it's like "are you stupid? I'm going to hit you!"

@stux I’m with you, but not for bikes and pedestrians. Red lights should be like Colorado safety stops — don’t blindly blow through them, but if no one is around, proceed through with caution.Cars should obviously never ever run red lights (unless it’s like 4 am and you’ve been sitting at a light that hasn’t changed in a couple minutes, etc.). It’s incredibly dangerous and supremely selfish

@stux its uncommon here but often only because drivers mistake the IR detectors for lane occupancy / pedestrians crossing at the top of the signal heads for small CCTV cameras (when I lived in London in early 1990s and signal heads didn't have these things you could never trust a driver to stop at a red light)

@stux As a motorist I find cyclists who go through red lights scary. I don't want to end up hitting one because at any given moment I can't be looking everywhere at once as I only have 2 front facing eyes.

@stux Speaking of 'hate" ...I hate ... no sorry, loathe! ... those big tall pickup trucks with those blinding halogen lights that's directly glaring at your face or behind you directly in your rearview mirror! They should be declared illegal ... both the halogen and the big pickup trucks! 🤬

@stux Back in college I got hit by a car while riding my bike. Even checked the light as I got off the ground to make sure I still had the green light. Luckily just a few scratches, plus needed a new bike, but it could have been much worse
