Hey all. I know people have been talking about some issues with DuckDuckGo recently; what exactly is going on with it? (I'm writing a piece about search engines is why.)

@calculsoberic Please post what you find. I'd be interested. I've had no problems with DDG, and Google is Satan.

@calculsoberic Now that you mention it, I have noticed that. It never occurred to me before, I guess. It is too bad.

@calculsoberic Don't know if I gave you my 2cents. In the late 90s I could search for stuff important to me (schematics of obscure electronics to fix them, etc) all search engines were very regexpr-like, and I didn't get results for wiperblades or p0rn when trying to fix my old HP printer. Now it's all complete SHT!! Someone needs to write a regexpr and nothing else search enging. DDG is better, yes, or it was.

@otheorange_tag I have noticed that too; part of it may be that sponsored results are showing up first. I find that dorking helps with this sometimes.

@calculsoberic Oh, probably not exactly related but online stores are TERRIBLE if you are looking for an obscure part and the engine can't find it, you will get really random stuff. Miev battery upgrade will walk you through old people products (I just made that up, but close to that)

@otheorange_tag it also may depend on which search engine/metasearch engine you're using, like maybe try Searx or Metager and see if the results are different.

@calculsoberic Just going to add to the anecdata that I'm finding search results are increasingly useless, even just straight-up wrong.

@otheorange_tag @calculsoberic that would be funny because miev sounds like "mief" which in German means, "smelly" very often conflated with old things and people (as in "old people smell")
