       Street pigeons are actually escaped domestic pigeons. People bred these animals. They were first domesticated as long as 10,000 years ago and they've been sharing habitats with humans ever since.They aren't pests. They're friends!

       @XanIndigo @KelsonV I don’t think anyone actually dislikes pigeons for being pigeons - they’re cute birds.Anything moves from “friend” to “pest” category when they become a vector of disease, and unfortunately this has happened with urban pigeons. They can spread multiple zoonosis and become a nuisance based on that.It’s really unfortunate. Do not go around touching undomesticated pigeons (or any undomesticated animal, period) as there is a risk of disease. They’re still cute just keep a distance.

       The Ani Ruins, on the border between Turkey and Armenia, contain what was once an entire pigeon city. It's carved from the porous volcanic stone of the cliff face, and contains 659 nesting spaces. I'm not sure of its exact age, but it could be over a millennium old.
