/kbin is a Reddit alternative for the Fediverse! That's right, it's ActivityPub-enabled. Which means that it connects with Mastodon, Pixelfed, Calckey, Friendica -- 100+ platforms that use ActivityPub.What are its features?* upvotes and downvotes* comments* feeds for "Top", "Hot", and "Newest"I think it's more functional and better looking than Reddit. This might be more than a Reddit alternative. It could be a Reddit killer! https://kbin.social@fediversenews

@mike Hey Mike, can you explain what you mean "locked in a dark theme"? Is there any issue with switching themes? There are ongoing efforts to improve the website theme, and it should get better with each passing day, but any feedback is extremely valuable to me.@atomicpoet @fediversenews

@atomicpoet @fediversenews the challenge for anything to “kill” a given established social network/site like Reddit is not technical - it is primarily social. Is there a sufficient critical mass of people interested in the same topic (especially if obscure) who are also a) aware of the new site b) engaged enough with that new site that they could see a given post c) actually see and respond to your specific post in a way that is respectful and encourages positive response not escalation

@ariadne I get your point. To be frank, I never even considered the possibility of “like = upvote”. I assumed the functionality would extend to comments as that’s it. However, here’s something I wonder. On the *key apps and *ma apps, there’s emoji reactions. Could upvotes and downvotes be counted with ⬆️ and ⬇️ emojis? That could plausibly be one way to do it.

@LunaDragofelis @atomicpoet @ariadne not a fan of up/down votes, but implementation wise you could could just support it by using the ⬆️ and ⬇️ emoji reacts - these tend to display counts after all. Mastodon must have added support for emoji reactions by now, it's been supported by most of the fedi servers for a long time.

@kichaeI run my own fedi services... and i want control about users on them. So i have ldap and keycloak as authentication-service behind. Not all fediservices support them...But if you've got an account from me, you can use thislogin for pleroma, nextcloud, peertube, mobilizon, pixelfed...And i don't want users i don't know. It's my hardware, my services, my money, soi want controll about my users.@atomicpoet @KarlHeinzHasliP

@jakob @atomicpoet @KarlHeinzHasliP @kichae 'It's my hardware, my services, my money, soi want controll about my users.'While I totally understand your point of view, I can't help but wonder how we would read that statement if it came from Musk...That's not about you personaly, more of a general diskussion about the nature of the whole 'centralized vs. decentralized' thing. So no offense meant.

@derbrumme @KarlHeinzHasliP @kichae @atomicpoetThats different.MY services federate. And YOU can do your own stuff. But it's fediverse, and our users can interact. Spacekarens users... stuck in there. That is a big and relevant difference.

@atomicpoet @fediversenewsA mashup of Mastodon and /kbin and WordPress would be killer software for every journalistic outlet. Every article that lives permanently on their site also automatically flows into the social web and allows for the best commenting system so far devised.

@wjmaggos @atomicpoet @fediversenews I wonder how well WriteFreely will work for this case once they add support for incoming replies. (Currently it's publish only, having grown out of the write.as/reply.as/snap.as set of one-thing-well websites, but they mentioned planning to integrate the capabilities going forward)
