@atomicpoet @fcktheworld587 @fediversenews Mastodon can and definitely should decide their servers won't link to servers and services that are designed with the intent of allowing the sharing of hateful content.Not one single network that's tried allowing unrestrained free speech has been successful in the market place. I know I won't go back to twitter, twitter-like, or even twitter lite (bluesky). Mastodon has shown that social media doesn't have to be anti-social.

@Susan_Larson_TN @atomicpoet @fediversenews it will be up to individual instance admins to make those decisions, if bluesky implements Activity Pub protocol. There will certainly be some fediverse admins out there who share your feelings on it, and migration is not super difficult. There are some unbelievably horrible fedi instances out there, which you probably don't see, because your instance doesn't federate with them - same thing will happen :)

But, it can be handled on an instance federation level, so that everyone can have an enjoyable, and safe, experience for them.

@Susan_Larson_TNWhich Mastodon are you referring to in the first word of your post? It can't be the software; for each admin can keep or abandon the snippet of code that allows for such a block. If it is the GmbH, that amounts to just a handful of instances. But you could use as a factor in deciding the instance you will decide to join. All the power to you. However, upon reading the interview, it appears that the person making the criticism does not understand how Twitter often suppresses and limits marginalized voices and makes it difficult for them to reach their intended audience, unlike Mastodon.

@wndlb @atomicpoet @fcktheworld587 @fediversenews They also don't understand the responsiveness of the moderation systems on mastodon (at least on the official servers), and the tools that mastodon provides that enable users to protect themselves if needed. I have regularly had abuse reports on Musk's twitter that took over 6 months to be dealt with, and over 3/4th of the times twitter said things were not violations of their policies even if they were explicitly prohibited by the sites rules.

@wndlb @atomicpoet @fcktheworld587 @fediversenews I was even permanently suspended for telling people attacking me in a transphobic pile on that I was reporting tweets that violated the hateful conduct policy. Based on the time it happened I am pretty sure it was by Musk himself who several of the attackers had tagged in on the thread.
