@boilingsteam How did it sell? Which version was the most popular?

@Fenris 512Gb was apparently the most popular according to the store clerks. As for how it did sell, relatively well for a first day - when I came back in the afternoon a lot of the "cards" people grabbed to purchase were gone, maybe half of them or a bit more.

@boilingsteam Did the Steam Deck feel “legitimate” compared to other consoles? Most of the people there probably knew Steam already, but what does the general public think about a handheld Linux PC from the West? Are people generally interested or dismissive?

@ridge More or less, yes. Not huge, but not nil. The fact that they sold quite a few of them on Day 1 is pretty positive - and a good sign.

@GlowingLantern No, most people who are not PC gamers have no clue what Steam is in Japan. And the general public in Japan has never heard of Linux, they only know Windows and Mac. So for the mainstream audience you are really far from getting a foothold, in Japan.

@boilingsteam Does the Japasese public appreciate the desktop side of the SteamDeck or the potential for tinkering with things like emulators?

@PalePimp I am not sure about the emulation scene in Japan - that's something pretty underground here while there's certainly some traffic going on. As for the desktop side of things, I don't think it plays a role at all. Right now it's PC Gamers who purchase the Deck for the most part, and they probably have several PCs at home already.

@boilingsteam @GlowingLantern Gotta start somewhere I suppose. The optimistic view I take is lots of room for growth.

@PublicLewdness @GlowingLantern Yes, you can see it as a glass that's very, very empty and that can be made full. But having the same strategy as the other markets is not going to cut it. Most American companies have no clue how to win in Japan.

@boilingsteam @GlowingLantern I agree with your point about companies having no clue how to market in Japan. I have no idea how to fix that. Arrogance and incompetance can be hard things to overcome and most western companies are used to operating thinking they already have all the answers.

@PublicLewdness @GlowingLantern The easiest fix: hire people who know Japan, both foreigners who have lived there for a long time, and local workers alike, instead of directing things from an ivory tower. You gotta be humble. The market is always right, so let it kick your ass and learn.
