It also helps to have your own server. It brings the extra safe feeling. Everything is under control and nobody can say what should I post, how should I behave etc. It's my server.

@rolle my plan is a co-op instance, one of the key functions being private groups as the FB groups I intend to usurp sometimes post things that we'll just say don't work out of context. Just posting something to mock it can get one in trouble here.

@rolleI do agree with you. It's a more satisfying way to payback for the use of the #Fediverse by providing a very tiny part of the infrastructure rather than paying a Patreon fee. It's a great intellectual exercise in trying to master and optimise the instance. It's also introduced me to bot making. I still have much to learn.Finally it's a return to community-led online discourse. Loved usenet, ran a forum for many years but could never get into the commercially led versions.

@mookie @rolle Hi ! Since I just started hosting my account I don’t know exactly how to setup the retention settings. Do you have different values for media and article retention ? (In admin/server settings ?) Am I right in thinking that article retention doesn’t eat much space and and I can get rid of media in a few days which will be redownloaded in case it’s needed ?Thanks !
