Banning conversion therapy is so stupid. If people want to change their sexual orientation, they should be allowed to.

@Hyolobrika problem 1: conversion therapy doesn't change who someone is attracted to, the sexual orientation remains the same. Some would claim that altering the behaviour "solves the problem" but the simple fact is, there was no problem before, but there is one after (person conditioned to reject/be disgusted by what they haven't stopped desiring).so the whole thing's kinda fucked.problem 2: people will pressure other people into it.

@Hyolobrika Banning it altogether, perhaps yes. People should be allowed to self-sterilize themselves. But not minors, without legal guardians say, without enough information, and with giving consent to ones not able to consent.

@PawelKConversion therapy is for gay people who don't want to be gay.

@dhfirProblem 1 isn't an actual problem. If someone wants to do it, and they're not affecting anyone else, and they're an adult, they should be able to do it; no exceptions. This is also the principle that makes it acceptable and legal to be LGBT in the first place.Problem 2 can be solved without making the entire thing illegal. I mean, imagine if other dangerous things like extreme sports, alcohol, smoking, etc were made illegal just because people could be pressured into it.This whole thing feels like the LGBT community enjoying their new found freedom (as they should) but getting greedy with it instead of allowing everyone to have it.

@Hyolobrika From scientific point of view (in a sense of old, classical science), those therapies generally dont work, think quackery, and additionally cause quite much psychological pain and/or trauma in victims. As of forced treatmemts by it, via force of legal guardians, they are sort of comparably painful and pointless to sex-change for trannies, ie out of consensual - shall be prohibited. Here additional difference is, no sensible court would ever send anyone for it.

@Hyolobrika okay, you seem to have misunderstood:the problem is that it does not work, and causes long lasting suffering, neither of which is made clear to those that undergo it, assuming they were given a choice (on that doesn't sound like "do this or we're kicking you outta the house") in the matter in the first place.

@Hyolobrika Your response on point 2 is BS, you dont seem to understand how consent and pressure, and ad industry, and peer-pressure, and both legal and out-of-legal - orthodox-family unconditional forced treatments work, or pretend not to do so.Your stance on point 1 looks suspicious too, but i need to refocus first. Brb.

@PawelKYou can also be peer pressured into going bungee-jumping, which can also be harmful. Should we ban that?(Didn't send previously; found in drafts)
