@3nzof3rrari3 @1finekitty I have no guns, no interest in guns. I am not a coward. when i was 10 i got a .22 rifle and took it in the woods around our house and shot AT things:) when i grew up, i got rid of it, as I had no use for it or any other gun.

An arbitrary number that may or may not be true.No, it will depend on the circumstances. If I need a gun because one of my neighbors is sociopathic, then I fancy my odds better than 50%.

@staidwinnow @msbellows @1finekitty even if you have a sociopathic neighbor, the odds are still much greater the gun will be used against you a=or a family member than the odds your evil neighbor will kill you. that is the point. in an instance, a gun might offer you protection from someone outside the family, but over time, even with the worst neighbors, the gun is more likely to kill than protect you and your family. it is not arbitrary. you can review crime stats for yourself.

@staidwinnow @msbellows @1finekitty these facts remain, there are, in the USA, about 8000 armed home invasions. about 100 of them end in death of a member of the household. of those 100, 15 are people with no gun. 85 are homes with guns and a family member dies, or about 7 times more likely to die if you have a gun in the home!of the 45,000+ gun deaths per year in the USA, white men account for over 30,000 deaths, including 20,000+ suicides and around 10,000 white on white gun murders1/2

@staidwinnow @msbellows @1finekitty2/2almost no none is killed by a gun in the USA in a home without a gun. it makes sense , but gun owners dont seem to make the connection. the best gun safety you can have is to not have a gun. if you like guns, they are legal, so you may have one, but they do not make you or your family safer.

A young boy at the back lit up a cigarette. I went and politely explained that I was allergic and asked him to please put it out. He was about 14. He was embarassed he said "You could smell it way up there?" 1/2

I can not imagine living in fear like you do for something that has such a small likelihood of happening. It must be horrible to feel that way. I am really sorry for you. The chances you or a loved one will die from suicide/accidental shooting/family dispute is 40,000 in 55,000,000 or 7 in 10,000. The gun adds 1000 times the risk!
