It's wild how whenever society talks about paying labor more money companies will say they can't afford it but never provide their financial documents backing up that claim. There's also something funny you notice if you look into publicly traded companies finances and it's that they totally could afford it.What I'm getting at is it's a shame companies are used as a vehicle to exploit labor and move wealth only up

I worked at a company that proudly proclaimed they made a record profit for the year. Then they cancelled bonuses and gave everyone very small raises during annual reviews. They were claiming they made record profits but also couldn't afford to pay us more. That's wild

This same company also cut everyone's pay by 5% at the start of the pandemic. Managers they cut by 7.5%(they claimed). Top level execs? They wouldn't say. All they said is "substantial" but would never elaborate. It turns out they didn't lose business like they expected to and eventually restored pay. They did not, however, offer any backpay or any other benefit. So basically, they just stole everyone's wages for 9 months and then pretended like they didn't.

When I called them out on this behavior they would always emotionally abuse me about it. Act like I'm an idiot or somehow don't understand the complexity of business. They would not ever show me any documentation about what they were doing though. I was denied any request I made for them to prove it.Somehow they were surprised when I quit and cited them as being untrustworthy and, in my opinion, criminal.

Furthermore, it is interesting how they don't have money for raises (or even paying our full salaries) but as soon as I put in my notice they tried to counter offer. Oh, so you do have the money all of a sudden, you're just being a greedy asshole.

@aut It's part of why if you want to control inflation, you go after their greed for more profit first.

@aut It super funny that you had your answer to the previous post about the record profits all along. Yes indeed, the workforce is sized according to expectations of revenue.BTW, Clayton Christensen's book mentions that all the companies that were pushed into north-east corner and disrupted showed record profits right until the moment of collapse.
