No, #OpenSource advocates are not engaged in “special pleading” to try to get open source given an unreasonable artificial market advantage in Europe in the #CRA, as some are alleging. https://the.webm.ink/not-trying-to-opt-out

@webminkAre EU institutions going to stop using any software that isn't certified, because if not it kind of sounds like that should be on them. Maybe they should make a list of what they use and then splash some grant money about if they want extra work doing?

@Rog I don't think so, although I expect @EDPS might want that. As to spraying money around, we have previously explored that and found EU procurement processes make it very hard indeed for the Commission to direct funds to developers without a competitive tender. I do have an idea though - just waiting for the right moment...

@webmink for a quarter century, #FOSS advocates have basically asked for a seat at the table, not special dispensations. The rest of the industry, which loves to use lobbying dollars to buy marketshare, finds this inherently frightening. The only pseudo-exemption to this is for asking government contracts to prefer open standards and formats, which given the interoperability and security needs, would seem a fair position really.

@zeruch I wrote about this recently: https://the.webm.ink/consulting-the-fourth-sector(and actually in March as well, but that was #CRA specific https://the.webm.ink/the-commission-must-consult-the-open-source-community )

@webmink well done. It certainly feels like some days we're still rehashing some of the same boilerplate ground i was pushing against in the 90s (I was at VA Linux back then, and some of the arguments we ran into seem quite obstinate). Most days though, the progress seems deeply real.
