It appears that Bluesky is creating a content hellscape, in the mistaken belief that by allowing users to hide content, the ecosystem can escape the negative regulatory implications and social damage of permitting such content. Nor will their distributed/federated model prevent these outcomes.

@lauren So far the only thing about bluesky that impresses me is the indirection between @handle, account identifier, and hosted content that should allow for account migration that would be much smoother, more complete, and keeping your public identity intact -- assuming there are ever other implementers of their protocol. I'm hoping some activitypub/fediverse/mastodon folks adopt something like this.

@lauren if part of setting up your profile on a site is them asking you if you want to see these things and you have to say no or you will see them, then I am just gonna nope my way outta that site forever.
