Journalist hit pieces don’t propagate on fedi like they do on twitter. Why is this? I have some guesses, but I want to hear your thoughts.

@dave I think it's a cultural thing; they propagate far more on #Mastodon, we see a few news articles in the trending posts on mastodon.social today, for example:https://mastodon.social/exploreI rarely see news articles spread so vastly across #Pleroma or #rebased

@dave They lack the social network here to juice their stories and make them "viral". On Twitter and presumably facebook, they would coordinate the releases of their stories to maximize clicks and engagement.

Federation limitations. Some things just don't federate well. For example, Poast posts federate to us basically immediately but it takes about a minute for ours to federate to them. I'd like to figure out how to increase the speed of incoming federation but I don't know how. Defederation should also be taken in to account, even though most of the time it's one way.

@dave Popularity here doesn't seem to be equated to credibility in the same way, which is how it should be. In general, this also seems to be a far more positive community; we have the ability to remove the bad actors before they can spread their toxicity.

@dave i think they've never understood internet culture, which is why they seem so obsessed with account verifications on twitter. Also have you noticed how most journalist upload a picture of themself for their profiles and use their real name? Makes me wonder, if they also have alt accounts on which they behave different.
