@rolle Can the UI be changed on the user side, or does it have to be implemented by the person running the server? Because here on .social it looks like standard Mastodon, complete with the god awful always present "Write your post here" box taking up a massive chunk of the screen real estate.

@TacticalGrace_ For server-wide and mobile, only admins can enable it.On desktop browser a regular user can run this via user style, see instructions here: https://github.com/ronilaukkarinen/mastodon-bird-ui#installation-for-regular-users-contributing-and-testingI wanted to get rid of the clunky bar on the right on mobile and use the bottom bar instead. That is only achievable via system wide styles.@elk is really close to my UI style-wise but imho not fully there yet. I love the original web back end so I just wanted it to make it look like a bit better. #MastodonBirdUI

@rolle Yeah, I do like your style, and I like Elk too, but I'm also kinda used to the standard layout. I just wanted to tweak it a bit to better suit me. I'll go take a look at your instructions, and see whats what. Thanks, Roni!

@writeblankspace They haven't. I'm just comparing here my own UI and the UI used elsewhere in the default instances. @writeblankspace It depends on your instance admin. Many prefer the default UI and don't like to change it, especially not to #MastodonBirdUI which is inspired by #Twitter. There has been feature requests about user configurable themes, but they haven't got wide attention and I don't think they are coming to Mastodon any time soon. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/9919#issuecomment-1487257585

@rolle That looks so nice.A tricky thing about navigating the #fediverse is wanting your account to be aesthetically pleasing, but depending on how one is accessing your content, your avi (for example) might be square or round. It may look nice in one app and be cut off in another. I find the lack of consistency to be both fun/exciting and annoying as fck.

@leer10 Either get your admin to enable Mastodon Bird UI system wide, move to a server that has it enabled system wide or use this method: https://dmv.community/@jcrabapple/110277901587041979Or use a web app like Elk. On Android there is no real apps with this kind of UI.@BarrenPlanet
