@aheisleycook @LunaDragofelis honestly, I'm not sure how I'd go about getting windows even if I wanted to.like... I'd buy another computer? or install it somewhere???and like, how would I even go about the account business?

@dhfir @LunaDragofelis @aheisleycook You can buy a windows licence, and download and install it. I personally wouldn't recommend windows now though. The computer isn't yours anymore with windows.https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11/

@latelesley @LunaDragofelis @aheisleycook see, no matter how you dice it this is a heap of effort to go through to let myself use an unfamiliar system I would be better off not using.

@dhfir @LunaDragofelis @aheisleycook I couldn't agree more. Nowadays I recommend Linux Mint, if you are new to linux, but used to windows. I use it as my daily driver OS on my PC.

@dhfir @LunaDragofelis @aheisleycook Yeah, I haven't ventured into arch territory yet, I'm still not experienced enough on Linux. And I've heard arch can be fiddly to set up. I might try manjaro at some point, but I always seem to gravitate back to mint. it really is a well looked after distro.

@latelesley @LunaDragofelis @aheisleycook Yeah, arch setup is... something.I still haven't gotten around to giving my normal user root permission because I feel like It'd be too much effort (though I did do the same on debian) and now pacman has some kinda difficulty with keys that I honestly don't car about enough to fixI used to be on manjaro, but then I found out that a) your distro can just swap out your shell on you and b) manjaro was willing to do just that.I tried to change it back, but they'd apparently done some mad nonsense with systemd and now the normal way of changing shells didn't work, because fucking systemd.channeling my distaste over the whole ordeal (for both manjaro and systemd) I installed alpine and started using that (musl libc means it has worse software support than most linux distros, and there's this one package many programs need in order to do graphics properly but don't use as a dependency, but overall I did enjoy my time with it)

@dhfir @LunaDragofelis @aheisleycook Have you seen Vanilla OS? I watched a vid on Explaining Computers YouTube channel the other day. It looked pretty good, and secure to boot.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CHQ8c7QqlbM
