I don't understand people who say the economy is going to collapse and the dollar will be worthless - so invest in precious metals. It doesn't make sense. You're trading one currency for another. Neither of which can become food, ammunition, water, shelter, fire, et cetera. In the event of an economic collapse, I believe the best resources for bartering will be those that are highly sought after and necessary for life. Shelter, food, water, ammunition, firearms, sugar, salt. I feel like those who say one should invest in precious metals are deliberately ignoring the fact that there's a chance there will be no financial backbone to support such trade. So, what you have your 50 ounces of gold. I've got ten gallons of water. Your gold means nothing to me.

@matty No joke, 9mm rounds have all the advantages of gold in a shtf scenario and a bunch of practical advantages on top of that. They also hold their value better. Only chumps stack gold when they could be stacking ammo.

@matty when people who have prepared for the tough times wont need anything you have to barter, gold and metals might be the only thing to persuade them to part from their goods.

They will have value in the after, after. Stock every thing else first, then metals. And if you think you will be able to trade gold in the bad times, you are asking to be killed. If you want that, pre 64 dimes and quarters, but know that people will notice if you are the one who constantly has them too.Just read Selco, man. He lived through that shit.

@matty People have zero thought when they hear things, they don’t realize that you’re supposed to buy gold when you’ve run out of space in the safe and garage for more guns, ammo, food, water, and sustainment logistics. It’s compact and lets you store money fairly efficiently, while supposedly being inflation resistant. Supposedly. Funny how everything else is 40% pricier, but buying a silver eagle costs the same as it did when I was in HS

@matty Yes!!!In a small crisis it's always small luxury consumables. Toilet paper, etc. Long term crisis it's going to be more practical consumables. Imagine what a good water filter would be worth to you, or a coleman lantern, or a small fuel stove which could boil that water!A simple .22lr squirrel rifle to hunt rabbits, even. A couple of chickens. You can't eat gold. Gold won't keep your family warm.

I've heard people say that the gold/silver is for bartering with people who aren't interested in necessities (??? ) that it will regain it's value once we get passed said economic collapse, or because it has value in other countries. In the end, it's, more or less, just an easy way for them to feel secure and placate their fears, instead of stockpiling necessities, and learning the survival skills to protect themselves or make themselves useful after an economic collapse imho.

@Twoinchdestroya @Imp @matty Saw this in Venezuela where no one had money to buy/trade for coins so owners would get lowballed just so they could turn their coin into 'something' (one possible exception is bribing border guards, an option we won't have).I mentioned before the spam-for-tail currency exchange during the Yugoslav war; if a woman is letting guys bang her so that she can get a can of meat to feed her kids she's not going to give a shit about someone's shiny trinkets.

Gold isn't for an immediate collapse scenario. Bullion isn't going to be worth shit in a SHTF scenario immediately. What it will be useful is when the SHTF scenario is over and thing are somewhat stabilized and beginning to barter and fiat currency is still shaky.

@Agartha_Noble @matty I know it’s manipulated, and it’s not fair, but there isn’t much we can do about that. I’ve been hearing the prepper nerds tell me to stock up on silver & gold since I was a kid, even did so to an extent, and it still hasn’t moved much. We need to be realistic about it, instead of this sunk cost cult where we keep acting like surely any day now silver spot’s gonna sextuple. It’s enough just to at least hold some value and be fun to hold…as long as you have all the practical bases covered first. The only exception is when you have a real IRL economy to use - and that’s how I initially got into buying it. So far it’s never been able to snag me a deal, people trade it at spot when you want to actually buy with it, so you end up taking a hit on every round.

@LouisConde @matty It depends on the SHTF scenario, in war time it’s been pretty useful in the past. It’s only useless in zombie nigger apocalypse total collapse, which may be a legitimate scenario in some parts of the USA but even then it’s not going to be coast to coast by any means. The total collapse is an american meme coming from the whole frontier mystique in my opinion, failing empires don’t go down as zombie apocalypses, they go down with something that looks a lot more like the great depression followed by local rule becoming more important than distant rule.Weimar was pretty much the worst thing that could happen to a modern industrialized country at the time, and it didn’t look like mad max at all, adding 10% niggers to the mix does not change the dynamics that much.Tl;Dr: gold won’t save you from rabid niggers, but it may help your daughter flee to someplace where she doesn’t need to become a hooker to survive.

Electricity is far easier to generate than most people, and any apocalypse movie ever made, makes it out to be. The problem is batteries. The average rooftop solar panel array generates enough power for you to operate your house indefinitely, the problem is not the yield, but being able to sufficiently store enough energy between sunlight hours. You could literally take and convert a stationary bike, ride it an hour a day for fitness, and generate enough electricity to keep a couple lights on for the day with a power tool battery.Very few scenarios would result in mass loss of electricity. If you can't figure out how to generate a few Kw/h a day, you should learn.

Really? I was under the impression that it was quite difficult to generate enough electricity to run household appliances. For example, electric dryers can take up to 3 KW/h, refrigerators and freezers about 1 KW/h when the condenser is on and so forth. If it really is that easy, maybe I'll look in to solar panels and other means of electricity generation.

The average household uses around 900 Kw/h a month. About 30 Kw/h a day. That is without trying to be efficient about it. A small battery system (5Kw/h) and a hydroturbine pumping 1Kw/h and you are good indefinitely. Solar panels are harder because they require you to have a much larger battery pack, but the panels themselves will only run a few thousand to get get more than 1Kw/h/h.Peak usage is always the issue with any setup. If you were trying to go off-grid and/or prepping, getting consistent usage elements like ductless AC (has much lower highs, runs more consistently than conventional electric heating) for heat is a good idea. Freezers don't run nearly that much. Electric Dryer I am not sure off the top of my head, but also seems ridiculously high. Worst case, get a clothes hanger. Most electronics outside of monitors run less than a conventional lightbulb.

Really though, what the hell are you going need to run post when the grid goes down? Recharge some batteries? Maybe a fridge and a freezer? You can do that with some 12 volts (car) and a capacitor array for when it kicks on, with a few panels.I mentioned this earlier with the metal bartering though, your neighbors will notice this as well. Be careful.

We're long overdue for an energy storage solution. Batteries don't fucking cut it and the technology we're using, no matter how much they refine it has some severe limitations.Shit like those faggot EVs are just a meme for this reason and the fact that their very real and horrific impact on the environment is just flat out ignored by the same people screeching about 'green energy' shows they're just a kike scam.

@matty Interesting bit of info, the idea that Gold and Silver and other precious metals are valuable assets comes distinctly from a jewish perspective.Precious Metals are only valuable in the scenario that you are leaving a country whose currency has become worthless and are moving into a different country(just like jews do).Having access to fields(food) and water will let you survive much better but jews never do hard labor to maintain these things because they believe it's beneath them.Fighting is also something jews never do themselves, so of course weapons (in this case ammo) are also another much better spent resource if you plan on STAYING in an area that's going bad.In this way Rich people are also very much like jews in that if the situation ever gets dire and violence and conflict explode everywhere many rich Americans; just like the jews in America will flee and try to take their wealth with them to safer country.

@matty I know nobody’s going to read this but I don’t have time to shorten it. Sorry.I don’t think precious metals’ value will go to zero. Even in the total collapse scenario. What’s going to happen in the scenario you mentioned is that the value of those other things you mentioned - food, ammo, et cetera - will skyrocket. The value of gold will probably go up WAY up, actually, but the value of the survival things will go up so much further that the gold will not be immediately useful. However, gold, silver, etc. do have useful functions that makes them valuable in a way that jew-conjured virtual currency like the U.S. dollar is not. People make jewelry from all of them. Gold has electronic uses. Silver has medical applications. Platinum is useful in electronics. …and so on.After the doomsday part of the scenario, an economy will re-emerge and it will need currencies to function. It will probably have developed an allergy to fiat currencies. So going back to traditional ones would be a natural shift.…but that’s not the reason to buy gold. The reason to buy gold and whatnot is for the partial collapse - things like the Great Depression, 2001, and 2008. Hordes of retards try to flee to gold (even though it’s already too late) and suddenly gold is a great way to buy the assets they were previously using to try to store value - like houses. If the dollar collapses, this goes double because you can do things like sell an ounce of gold for a wheelbarrow of cash and then use the cash to pay off your house. I doubt it would get that far without going the rest of the way into a “fall of Rome” scenario.…but, even then, did money go away altogether? Did the economy go away altogether? I haven’t done the research to know the answer but I would place a sizeable bet on the answer being “no”.

@matty You're conflating different scenarios. Apocalyptic collapse, yes water ammo and storable food are better than gold. A currency collapse in the short run, yes same are high value but you'll get very high exchange into a replacement currency especially blue money. If it's an Apocalyptic collapse, you'll be too busy trying to be alive day to dayfor anything to matter. In an economic collapse, default, or devaluation, metal is still real. When they say economic collapse think Argentina or Greece before going mad max. Hedging the two is probably a good strategy.

The car batteries? Sure, they could easily. They might not last as long as some other options because they are set up differently, essentially for higher quick discharge, but I don't know how far off they would be, unlike regular car batteries which don't function well at all, but would also technically work.

This is actually cheaper than I thought it would be for 5 kw/h, at about 300 per Kw/h.DIY systems can be set up for pennies on the dollar though if you can source batteries and don't mind getting a little dirty with wiring. Older videos people used to do it with the old tubular laptop batteries, you could get them for like $1 a piece and string together a few hundred to end up with a few dozen Kw/h of capacity.

No idea yet specifically. Have to find a house/land first, which is why we moved to KY last year. Just haven't found the right land yet, which will decide how I would need to set it up. Typical pennstock system would be easiest probably, but there are other ways depending on head/flow on the property, so I might need to do several smaller turbines to get the capacity I want, which is around 1 Kw/h/h, but I could manage with half that.

1kwh/h is a little less than average home usage, we already use less. We track around 700 kw/h a month, and I could cut that by a third if I were trying to. We will be hooked up to the grid originally as well until I am good and ready to switch it off. That will just be the hydro portion as well, will backfill with solar or maybe wind or both as I progress. I have had 5 years to research the topic extensively, but theory will meet practice soon and we will see.

There are multiple ways to set things up in that situation. A freezer could be 'insulated' on the exterior and buried or put in a root cellar to create much less draw. If you are prepping for the possibility, it isn't hard to keep everything running, at least for a while.

The Tl;dr is that the metal trio is a long term prep, and should only be thought of once you can grow food and replenish water. Copper, silver and gold became currencies because of their mix of both reasonable rarity AND the fact that it will still be fine even after sitting for a thousand years. They are only useful as an intertribe unit of value once conditions are relatively stable.ad hoc barter becomes less useful once the desperate die off and the groups of means coalesce and are able to meet their basic needs. Using increasingly rare weapons and ammo only weakens you and empowers a future enemy, so it's a pants on head retarded no-go. Prepping some metals (copper and silver moreso than gold) is a long term thing.Immediately edible food is never a good everyday barter item because your people need it and it can't be stockpiled. So unless it's being traded for types of food you don't have (and the trade is worthwhile, 5 pounds of beef for a chocolate bar is stupid.) It doesn't get you far. You can use perishable food as payment for a service, but not as a currency. Where metals come in (copper and silver moreso than gold) is being able to store wealth that can't be used up through daily necessity. As an example, salt, unprocessed grains and even honey have been used as defacto currencies, rather than just barter items, because they're shelf stable. but they're things that aren't stockpiled as currency. Your stockpile of seed rice is for the planting. Not for using as money. And your salt is for preserving. You only use ether once you have enough for your use plus extra as insurance in case of a bad season. Intratribe currency is usually going to be favors, because everybody is working for food already. But intertribe needs something to use between each other. If everyone has baseline food needs met (which if they're even considering food trades, they will) then the value of food in and of itself isn't there anymore. And other barter items are unreliable because it only works if there is a consistent need. trading potatoes for medicine to the tribe next door is meaningless if they have potato already. They can't stockpile potato forever. But if both of you agree that 10 ounces of copper is worth 10 potatoes, thus forming a potato backed currency. you can trade copper for medicine, and in 5 or ten years if you have a bad harvest you can exchange copper for potato. But Again, this is only something that comes into play years down the road once everyone is out of the fight and fuck stage.

The only way gold would be handy is if you managed to both cash out your gold and use the currency to buy supplies right before everything went to shit.Even IF you were able to have such great timing you'd still be purchasing goods at an inflated cost so I'm not sure you'd be all that much better off.I totally agree that buying the other stuff needed to stay alive instead is a better idea.

@matty Honestly I believe that it's wise to have diverse investmentsI know people who are alive right now because of silver coins. Hard goods were important before it got to that point but they needed something that would be accepted by a foreigner after two currency changes post-war rendered their savings worthless. The water gets you alive through a 60 mile walk and the ammunition is depleted. The silver is the bribe that gets you through a gate and on the register as a refugee

@matty it depends on the crisis of course. If it is deflationary crisis which is equally likely in our case then you will actually want dollars because so few will be available, prices will be on an elevator downwards. In the opposite, an inflationary crisis then you want to dump dollars, as you can't really store all the dollars out there in water and food, so where will they run to?this is all debatable of course but one would imagine things like, farmland or cashflowing land that produces crops, rental properties + land, gold or rare metals that have survived all manner of war and crisis as currencies have gone bust throughout history. In immediate aftermath of monetary destruction, such that all of our systems shut down, I agree with you those basic survival necessities you mentioned are most sought after.

@LouisConde @matty Imagine the “worst” case scenario (which actually looks pretty good for the world despite the unfortunate millions of innocent lives lost), the federal government is decapitated, the ten biggest US cities are nuked, a few states lose their state level government in the process. What would happen is that the long distance economy would fail, but a lot of infrastructure would still be working by inertia, the national electric grid would break up but local power plants would still work on their isolated grid.Farms would still produce food, with the hyperspecializing of agriculture it would make for a deficient diet, but not starvation, you would still have most water treatment plants running, fresh water functional if only a few hours of normal pressure per day, same for waste management, etc…The massive bureaucracies of municipal rule and state rule would be generally intact, national guard would revert to governor control, it’s not a wild scenario in the sense that I can guarantee you that every one of them has a folder with a plan already drafted from decades ago about what to do in that situation.I have done crisis simulation of crap that is as bad if not worse in a corporate setting (yeah, risk management is not only about reading economic reports ^^), it’s bad but it’s -not- mad max bad, the main issue is economic and in that regard the US is very badly prepared compared to most other countries, but economic issues are only issues because most shit is still working, being dirt poor is a problem because you could actually still buy stuff if you were not, the main issue in societal collapse is ensuring that the massive remaining production capability is actually used for the welfare of the survivors. And, I’m sorry to tell you that, but that failure already happened some times ago in the US, from that point of view, you are already living the worst part of the collapse, a few nukes or a financial meltdown would change practically nothing.

@matty What do you think happens when an economy defaults? Foreign investors buy everything but you can also have piece of that if you're smartBefore the collapse of the papermark those who had gold in their hands could buy almost anything they wanted, during the 2001 crisis those who exchanged everything for dollars could multiply their wealth exponentially and far beyond that tooI do know you've got niggers to take care of but if you're smart you're gaining the system instead of larping, though ofc food and medicine always have an intrinsic value during hard times or otherwise.Remember that economical collapse only affects the poor not the rich because that's when their assets expand the most

@matty It really depends on what the collapse looks like. As others have mentioned, gold and silver are for when you are past a short-term collapse or when fleeing.Long term collapse means production capability and repairing. Growing food, making lumber amd bricks, making ammo, making cloth and similar. Scavaging materials. Fixing broken things. It is impossible for you to stockpiling everything you will need for the rest of your life and the lives of all your descendents. Small stockpiles to smooth over the transition are prudent.
