       @SuperSnekFriend @DW2 I'm wondering what stats are being floated around that sparked the Twitter thread, since homicides of many cities are at or above the all time record highs in the early 90s. Portland broke a murder record in 2022. I'm pretty sure Baltimore broke their record in 2022 (the exact historical stats were hard to find).  St. Louis broke a record in 2020 with a ludicrous 87.2 homicides per 100K. Detroit is becoming on pair with their rates in the early 90s. Basically every city with a large Black population is experiencing or closing in on record violence. The homicide rate generally tracks with other violent crimes, and is probably the best single overall indicator for disorder. Despite all of their problems, American cities still have functioning coroner offices, so homicides still do get reported as “homicides.” While it's true there have been cases where police chiefs and mayors have had the figured fudged, and moved a few bodies into a category other than “homicide”, but it was only a smaller number and done for the purpose of Federal gibs.But like the Twitter thread mentioned, this STILL understates the overall break down of order, property crimes, petty theft, open air drug markets, roaming homeless, the refusal of cops to make arrests, the refusals of DA's to prosecute, the court system incentivizing lawlessness, etc... And as for the murder rate, it does not take into account factors like advances in medicine that have turned previously fatal gun shot wounds into treatable wounds.
