For #TravelThursday and also I guess #TriceratopsThursday, one more from my just concluded #Colorado trip (due to flight delays I didn’t get home till after 2:30AM so I am really dragging). No signs or explanations for these, nothing else close by, they were just in a field by the highway. Possibly put here in reference to outcrops of the #dinosaur fossil-rich Morrison formation in the area. But whatever - mysterious roadside art is the best roadside art. #dinosaurs #art #travel #photography

@Dero_10 they’re on Hwy 93 between Golden & Boulder (just north of Golden). Just now looked on the interwebs & found a local news report with more info about them & the artist: https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/next/colorado-golden-triceratops-colorful-dinosaurs-highway-93-art-sculpture/73-01fc324f-4db8-4c9a-b4ed-3344eb722c37

@Trilobyter this is the work of a Golden artist named Pat Madison. (I've met Pat.) The overall assembly is called fractal dinosaurs. He's done a bunch of other Golden area smaller sculptures.

@smellsofbikes it’s very cool art work, I did look it up & found a local news report on the dinosaurs & Pat, really interesting guy. (posted the link in my reply to another person about my post)

@Trilobyter @Dero_10 I found this quote interesting:“The reason why I picked the triceratops is Golden is more or the less the home of the first fossil found of a triceratops”It's more common to say the "Bison alticornis" fossil later recognized as Triceratops was found "near Denver", which is nearby and much better known to outsiders, but I don't think this is my first encounter with Golden getting the credit. I don't know which is closer to the actual location.

@Trilobyter my sis-in-law rents her apartment from him and he organizes local events. There's a pretty good cadre of low polygon sculpture artists around here.

@JJPeterson @frankiespurlock a very nice neighborhood you’ve got up there 🙂. Was just passing through - that day I had a demo to see up on a mysterious windy mesa top up north of Boulder & then had to drive all the way down to the south side of Denver, the Highlands Ranch area, a much longer drive time than I had expected though I had a couple of unexpected fun stops on the way - such as to stop & take a look at these fractal-saurs.

@Trilobyter @frankiespurlock A mysterious windy mesa north of Boulder describes a lot mesas around Boulder. That drive took you past several of our most iconic spots, Bandimere Speedway (where they hold drag races - the fast car version including the NHRA MileHigh Nationals, Red Rocks Ampitheater where the Beatles performed in 1964 and where I saw Lyle Lovett last year, and The Fort restaurant that has served local wild game for 60 years.

@JJPeterson @frankiespurlock Where I live now north of Houston is right next to Lyle Lovett’s hometown of Klein, TX. He still comes back to sing at his home church, was just here to sing in their Easter service. I’m not a churchgoer but I might make an exception for that. I saw Lyle in his pre-fame days when I was at UT Austin, he was opening for Nanci Griffith. I was standing next to him at the bar in the Cactus Cafe before he went on - I recall thinking, what’s with the weird hair on this guy?

@JJPeterson @frankiespurlock oh and I have eaten at The Fort on a previous trip several years ago - some of my Denver area colleagues took me upon there, had a great evening & meal as I recall.
