Another entry from a 19th century usage guide:Don’t say "party" for "person." This is abominable, and yet very common.#PartyPeople #Grammar #History

@grammargirl And if it is a party, I am running the opposite way! Who wants noise, confusion, and talkies!

This actually led me down a long rabbit hole trying to find a song I remembered as "Party people in the house tonight," which was actually "Party rockers in the house tonight." 🎶 https://youtu.be/KQ6zr6kCPj8?t=101

@grammargirl to be pedantic, it's "Party rock is in the house tonight"

@mvaneerde Yes, apparently I've been hearing it wrong. That kind of error is called a mondegreen. :)

@grammargirl so many of the "rules" for using English are things that are later overwhelmingly adopted. I wonder if it's the same with other languages, I suspect it is.

@grammargirl reminds me of a language pet peeve. People is plural for person except in legal matters and elevators. I cringe every time I see “persons” although it’s apparently correct English.
