@KFuentesGeorge What about captions for the hearing impaired? Serious question. Because most (>99.9%) videos posted with audio have no captions.

Y'all need to put alt text on your images for real. I signed up to the alt text bot, and every time I boost an image with it, I get a notification. So now *I'M* starting to get super annoyed at people without it. Alt text, mfs!#AltText #accessibility #photography #photo #art

@KFuentesGeorge A noble goal, but I keep seeing posts from folks who tried to move to Mastodon and left again because they were being harassed for minor things like this. Mastodon needs to be a welcoming place, not one where we police each other for trivialities.

@sammydee The visually impaired community has been super clear that, for Mastodon to "be a welcoming place," alt text is crucial. Moreover, adding alt text is hardly an enormous task. One thing I've started doing (besides adding alt text myself) is just *NOT* (or rarely) boosting images with alt text. It's hardly a matter of "policing," and more one of "basic human decency."Just add the alt text.

@KFuentesGeorge It's obviously good to promote it. Less good to yell at folks who don't. Positive feedback will get better results and avoid chasing people away.
