       On 15th April 1945 the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp was liberated. Some 50,000 prisoners including around 3,500 children died in the camp of hunger, disease or physical violence. Those who died included Jews, Czechs, Poles, anti-Nazi Christians, homosexuals, Roma and Sinti.        @bullivant it should be compulsory to visit concentration camps to prevent it happening again. Unfortunately it is non inclusive with camps in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Armenia etc left out

       @vitaminsludge @bullivant @georgetakei many interned by the British in Ilfracombe joined up and were only allowed in the Pioneer corps. Isle of Man seemed to have been not too bad. But UK invented the concentration camp used in South Africa first and just as deadly through disease in Malaya

       @bullivant Richard Dimbleby's BBC report on Belsen after its liberation is intense. What he we was reporting was so extreme they didn't want to broadcast but he threatened to resign if they shelved it.
