After sitting on my to-read list for a couple decades, I finally finished reading the Fountainhead. It was a great read. Highly recommend. Some parts were drab and monotonous, but the characters are ones I'll remember.

@MrsShill If I read Fountainhead, do I HAFTA read Atlas Shrugged?

@MrsShill I read Atlas but not this. I enjoyed Atlas but it was too long.

@roundy No. I read Atlas Shrugged about twenty years ago. I would say that Fountainhead is a good summary of objectivism on a personal choices level, while Atlas Shrugged takes a world and business view of objectivism vs collectivism.

@Jack5150 Agreed. She could have used an editor to cut these down. 😆

The Fountainhead was also a movie, which by 1940s standards wasn't terrible. @MrsShill @roundy

@MrsShill Can't say I've read The Fountainhead yet, but if you want a good story that examines similar philosophy in a fantasy setting, I really enjoyed reading Wizard's First Rule and the rest of the Sword of Truth series.

@MrsShill one of my favorite books. For a while my tag line was "what would Howard Roark do?".Also one of my favorite lines in any book. “Mr. Roark, we’re alone here. Why don’t you tell me what you think of me? In any words you wish. No one will hear us.”Roark replies “But I don’t think of you.”

@chromeratt Haha, yeah, he was a great character. I think WWHRD would be a good personal motto to check yourself.

@MrsShill I agree with your assessment. It took me awhile to get a better grasp on it. Atlas Shrugged was a bit more in your face. Fountainhead was a different approach.

@MrsShill I started listening to it. But fell off. I did listen to Atlas Shrugged and had to resist the urge to start it over at the end.

@MrsShill @PhoneBoy @roundy also, skip the AS movie, that one is off the rails.

@MrsShill I had my son listen to it as a way to prep him for AS. I also suggest Anthem as a short read.
