*sigh* trying to figure out how to explain to my social graph that guillotine 'jokes' are entirely as distasteful as helicopter-ride ones. 'fantasize about killing outgroup lol' isn't helping anyone."We're not genocidal chuds" seems like it'd be *more* reason to not kid about mass revolutionary violence, not *less*.

@palecur I know we're not in the same group, I just saw this via boosting, but:Guillotine discussion: Harming the rich and powerful who actively and inactively hurt the oppressedHelicopter discussion: Harming the oppressed through an active brutal and racist dictatorship This reeks of enlightened centrism. "Both sides want someone gone, but I don't wanna know the reasons why, both sides bad."

@queue in the interests of not being dismissive, and on the off chance that engagement will lead to a degree of enlightment, I suggest considering:"want someone gone" is a hell of a softening of "want someone to die in terror and pain", and "Those people are bad, therefore whatever we to do them is moral" is a profoundly repugnant ethos.

@palecur @queue More like "these people want us/our friends dead and/or are maintaining a system that will lead to our/our friends' deaths by neglect, therefore we wish we could just kill them preemptively".I think all of us know it's not quite that simple, but those are the daydreams our rage fuels when our guard is down.

@pteryx @queue We can't be really blamed for the reflexive twitches of our hindbrains -- you don't want a look at mine, I can be sure of that -- but we can strive to control what we express, because kidding about liking a thing runs the real risk of making us like that thing.
