@NEETzsche Yes, while i agree that capitalism isn't going away anytime soon, and even if it did, it would be replaced by Feudalism, rather than the failed economic system that M*rx and his ilk proposed, we cannot ignore that this person believes that you can run a tabletop rpg game like a forum freeform :blobfoxdisapprove: game, and frankly, that is arguably more cringe than any forms of c*******m.

I’ve done “async” (I legitimately hate this term) for years and it works great, but the thing is, it has to be with other people who are literate, which clearly doesn’t include anybody who has an opinion other than my own.

@NEETzsche I believe i am cursed when it comes to "Async" games. Every async game i joined wound up collapsing. Also, real talk? The person who is running this either made this himself or made someone make it for him.

We used too “async” “play-by-post,” but zoomers gonna zoom and misuse words like “async” in its place for reasons nobody with a functioning brain can comprehend. That being said, I’ve noticed that online games in general tend to collapse. I think it’s because the people are usually total strangers and because if you’re not a teenager you don’t really feel obligated to show up every time. Don’t get your way? Even slightly inconvenienced by the schedule? Just not feeling it in the exact instant you’re slated to be up?Fuck it, just quit.

@NEETzsche @MagotrapTheArchmage The trick is that unlike physical and voip ttrpg sessions where the baseline for quality and tempo (after DM) is set by the most proactive player, in play-by-post it's the inverse, where the least active player sets the tone and quality of the games, which requires that your entire group is more proactive than an average roleplaying group.

@dieulast That's not it. I've seen this flippant attitude in every format of online play. It's more the issue of playing with strangers vs playing with irl friends @MagotrapTheArchmage

@NEETzsche I wasn't rebutting your statement about playing online games with strangers, in fact I was confirming it, though I should've been much more direct with what I was saying. When I said "proactive" I also meant all the contextual baggage that comes with that word, such as investment and commitment which simply can't be expected from a group of strangers.@MagotrapTheArchmage
