       @tomcapuder I understand both sides on this. But if religion means what a person believes about god/gods, doesn’t “I don’t believe god/gods exist” qualify? (And on the other hand, a religion also encompasses a whole set of practices and cultural norms based on that belief, and atheists don’t seem to have many.)

       @avertexofmyown There's a critical difference between "I don't believe your claim for X" and "I believe X doesn't exist."The burden of proof is on those claiming something exists. In the case of a #god, the atheist merely withholds belief from the claim; most atheists are not making the opposite claim.And yes, atheism doesn't include things that instill community, like "a whole set of practices and cultural norms," which have *nothing* to do with the truth of the claims.
