I'm reading the wikipedia article about "Ajax the Lesser", i.e. the less powerful Ajax, of the Achean forces that laid siege to Troy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_the_LesserI love the phrase "the lesser" and want to claim it for myselfLike, before I enter any room, I want to be referred to as "Clive the Lesser" -- as in "hark, I see the approach of Clive the Lesser"It implies the existence of Clive the Greater, whose capabilities I wonder about

@clive I'm all for abandoning genetic lineage surnames and introducing more descriptive and unique denominators.I wouldn't mind the Lesser either, and frankly I'd opt-in to live in a world where I was known as the Dumber.But comparison is key here, it wouldn't be as fun to be know as the Dumb.

@clive thanks Clive! This gave me a double-take. My daughter’s nickname is Ajax (from initials) / she’s a (field) hockey goalkeeper, and refers to herself as “Ajax the Destroyer” when she’s mentally preparing to destroy the dreams of the opposing strikers. 🤣The Greek mythology connection is 👨🍳💋

@clive In this case, didn’t it mean he was lesser in size? Not that that would be much consolation — having your short stature rubbed in your face like that. But at least they weren’t implying he was a lesser man, right? Maybe I’m wrong about that.

@clive This is how @jaymeb and I refer to less popular Hollywood siblings primarily because we can’t always remember their first names: Franco the Lesser (Dave), Hemsworth the Lesser (Liam), Hemsworth the Least (Luke).

@schamspeare I think they meant it both ways -- lesser in statue (the OG Ajax was a huge dude), but also lesser in repute. I don't even think they meant it perjoratively, with respect to his lower repute; they meant it *descriptively*
