I love when people put "posts are my own opinions" in their bio. Like oh thanks for clearing that up buddy, I thought those opinions were Mark Ruffalo's. My dumb idiot brain thought you were sitting there posting Mark Ruffalo's opinions.

@lowqualityfacts I'm wondering if that's generational to some degree. "In my opinion" has become a viral social media verbal tick.😜 I don't see as many Gen-X-ers (or older generations) doing that quite so much.😉

@lowqualityfacts I don't know why other people say that, but I say it sometimes if I'm posting about soccer because my grandson is on an MLS team. I don't want anyone to think I may be posting information I got from him. He never tells me anything, but I don't want to implicate him. I have some pretty strong opinions.

@lowqualityfacts I can only assume that you are not aware of the vast number of people who get fired or reprimanded for their social media posts. It happens all the time. Those comments are there so if HR objects someone can point to them as a defence. Also, I am not sure what version of the internet you are on, but the one I am in has people who assume that person X speaks for company X when they make a public post.

@lowqualityfacts To be honest I have had issues where it is unclear if I am posting something on social media "as director of @aaisp" or "as myself personally", perhaps even as "customer of @aaisp ). It is a matter of having more than one hat. So yes, it makes sense, sorry.It is one reason it helps to have an official presence separate to my own presence. Anyone who is an officer of a company has to tread a line of which hat they are wearing at the time.

@lowqualityfacts Actually some employers at least strongly urge you to write that if you also state your employer in your profile and are tooting in a semi-professional capacity ... but yeah, of course it sounds dumb. What I toot is very much my own opinion – I just might hold SOME of my opinions back that I would have tooted very much if I was tooting completely privately. Otherwise some things might come back to haunt me. 😉

@lowqualityfacts though for some of us this is a bit of a CYA; my university disallows us from doing things like writing letters-to-the-editor of newspapers in our "persona" as a college prof (we can as a citizen, but can't refer to the fact that we're a prof) and at times it's been rumored they comb social media for people saying "critical" things

@lowqualityfacts It's mainly so that if I ever find myself in an HR-involved slapfight and someone digs up my toots, I can point to the disclaimer and maybe ward off a certain type of office rules-lawyer.(Note: the current job is actually pretty cool, but better safe than sorry.)

@lowqualityfacts I tooted about this very thing a week or two back. I found it weird seeing on the bird site everyone reassuring that the opinions were their own, so I asked. The replies were that many businesses had accounts there and the people who worked for them wanted to make it clear they were expressing their own views rather than those of their employers. I really hope it will not happen here, or at least not for a while.
