#NPR should run their own #Mastodon instance as should every other serious news outfit. This bullshit where supposedly serious news organizations should have to capitulate to the whims of some narcissistic billionaire or corrupt government is exactly why the reputation of #journalism everywhere has been dragged through the mud. You are all simply puppets if you cannot create, support and / or foster a framework that supports journalistic freedom and integrity.

What are they having to capitulate to him on? Choosing accurately identify state institutions isnt an attack on the press.

@Suig I agree. Though, I think we need to find some organized way of directly letting NPR know this instead of posting it here on #Mastodon where they have no presence (in other words, will not see what we are suggesting).

@mookie @Suig Why do you say "they have no presence?" I love following NPR here.https://elk.zone/zirk.us/@NPR@mstdn.social

@shacker @Suig Because that is a bot (most likely unofficial) that reads the NPR RSS feed and posts the links. No one is going to answer or read your tagging that account. Look at the replies tab in the account. There’s no interaction. When I write presence, it’s within the context of my reply: posting here will get no notice from NPR because they have no presence here — there’s literally no one from NPR reading our suggestions to get on the Fediverse.

@mookie @Suig Not sure they'd have a human interacting with the public on *any* platform. I just looked at some of their Twitter posts with thousands of replies and I don't see any from the NPR account. They treat social media as a posting platform, not an engagement platform. That's an aspect of how they behave on social media (probably policy) not an argument against their presence on Mastodon, which seems identical to their present elsewhere.

@shacker @Suig I get what you’re saying and am with you about social, media interactions. My mention of “not having presence here” is different than what you were asking. From what I can tell, you’re looking at it as “I can get their content here”. My original reply was about: Let’s all stop telling NPR to get on the Fediverse officially via posts on the Fediverse because they have no presence here to read it. Tell them where they will hear it. Hope this makes sense.

@mookie @Suig I think you're saying "It's not enough for them to have a presence here - I want them to engage with the public." But I imagine they've long-ago decided that that's a losing proposition and can get them into tons of hot water no matter what they say. I doubt you'll ever see them discussing the news with the public on any platform. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding.

@mookie @Suig News stories go through an editorial chain to make sure they get things exactly right. Social media comments would not and could lead to all kinds of trouble. It's safer for them not to reply. I doubt their lawyers would allow it.

@mookie @Suig My main point is that their presence here is as "FULL" as it is on Facebook or Twitter, and I'm grateful for it.

@shacker @Suig That’s not what I was saying, though it’s a cool idea. I was agreeing with Suig that they should have their own #Mastodon instance on an NPR domain. Also, for me, that all NPR correspondents/reporters have their official NPR accounts there for instant verification that they are who they are. And this suggestion extends to all news organizations, not just NPR. Original post from Suig for your reference:https://mstdn.party/@Suig/110170995572826035

@shacker @Suig Maybe to be more clear, my original reply: Stop suggesting into the void with posts on the Fediverse that news orgs get onto the Fediverse because they’re not here to read it. Let’s find ways (email? web forms? etc) that can actually get our suggestions to them. I’m not talking about interacting with reporters. Nor talking about not having their content. I was pretty clear about that throughout this thread.
