@stux I have family members who work in health & science, they use metric all the time.....

@stux Or a hybrid system like we use in Canada. :blobcatgiggle:

@stux All of our label are in metric and customary system. Which i just learned bc i had to look up the name of system we use. No one in school or college every said it had a name.

@stux it’s annoying that even here in the UK, we use a weird mix of both.

@FallsMom @stux Most people in science use SI, not metric. I don't know much about medical folks. Most people in engineering use Traditional (nee Standard).I don't know if there is a field outside of education in the US where metric is dominant.

@Ewan_Croft @stux I think you mean both metric and imperial, though I would bet plenty of people in the UK use SI.The US uses a variety of course, but the most common is US Traditional (once called "Standard": an attempt to compromise between European systems). That leads to confusion with my Canadian in-laws who have a different number of ounces in a pint, etc..This is just how humans work. You can't expect a "country" to switch units together. How or why would such a switch ever happen?

@john @stux yeah I do mean that.I guess it would depend on what the country as a whole wanted. Unification or not, it’s something that is just a part of life.

@Ewan_Croft @stux Agreed on the "part of life". I don't see this ending any faster than having different languages, and basically for the same reason: no one (thankfully) has enough power to force everyone to think, write, and speak any particular way.Well, that's my 2 cubits anyhow.

@john @stux yeah… I don’t really want to deal with a nineteen-eighty-four scenario either. Individuality is what makes us all unique.

@stux Also the inch, and from that all imperial distance units, is defined as precisely 2.54mm and has been so since the 1950s.But the inertia of the vast stock if construction / manufacturing / engineering systems built around imperial standard sized components and machines makes it unlikely they will ever swap those labels to any significant degree.
