       Yo I'm pretty fucking tired of white Americans seeing the French protests and saying "why don't Americans ever protest like this?" We did. In 2020.        @SallyStrange people lost eyes in 2020. i remember thinking the whole lost eyes to rubber bullets thing had to be a strange badge of honor and a very particular timestamp of a generation.these things are still happening.

       @debonairetoast @SallyStrange also worth noting that in france right now, protesters are getting beaten up too. police forces are using things considered as war weapons on protestors. people are getting hurt, and policemen aren't getting charged cuz they don't wear their identification plates. i saw somewhere that ~50% of the french population would like to protest, but doesn't to avoid injuries, etc...

       @zegolem @SallyStrange if we call the immediate risks equal.. the expenses aren't.. we like to avoid medical debt for those injuries. our wages are proportionately lower, missed time off work might mean a missed house payment or missed utility bill, missed rent, or a lost job from again.. weaker labor protections.the lie of freedom is a heavy burden for some. weighted reinforcement for the boots of others.
