I hear a lot about youthlib in this part of the pediverse. Other than the (mostly held by pro-Cs) belief that kids ought to be able to consent to sex, I don't hear a lot about the generally accepted specifics. Not the outlier stuff, that some of the truly radical believe ought to be real things, but the beliefs of the "youth lib center."Oh yeah, I also see the widely held belief that kids ought to be able to make really important decisions about their gender identity and how their bodies reflect said identity from a very young age. How young is that age? is it 5? 10? So yeah, what are the general "centrist" widely held beliefs that basically define the youth lib beliefs? How liberated are we talking about here, and in what ways?

@GavinPrynne I talk a lot more in depth about youth liberation on my nnia account. Basically, I want all age restrictions abolished. Naturally, that means that "parental rights" and forced schooling must be abolished. I think those two things are the primary causes or facilitators of child abuse and child depression.Under youth liberation, we can still have had standards so we make sure people have informed consent or are sufficiently competent, for things like medical procedures or driving.

@spaceheater See, that would mean that a 5yo could vote in national elections. I doubt that your positions are the centrist ones. You're likely more radical than the "typical" youth lib person.

@GavinPrynne Youth liberation is itself radical, I don't think the majority of self-described youth libs draw the line at 5 year olds voting. Certainly, I have not seen such limitations from the youth libs I talk to. Being concerned about 5 year olds voting is ridiculous, honestly. Even if for some reason we would expect they would "vote the wrong way."The comparatively extremely small population of 5 year olds who would vote, are not going to turn any elections.

@spaceheater Don't get hung up on 5yos voting. I don't consider the matter a serious one either. I wouldn't give a rip of some 5yo voted wrong; as far as I'm concerned, all sorts of adults vote "wrong."Don't get caught up on the idea that youth lib itself is radical. You know it is; I know it is too. What I was fishing for was the middle of the youth lib overton window.

@GavinPrynne Funnily enough, if I were to think of a centrist position it would probably be something along the lines of advocating for young people have all rights except to have sex with adults. In my experience, that feels like the primary disagreement among youth libs. No one talks about whether we should have a minimum voting age.

@spaceheater What it sounds like you're saying to me as that there is no centrist position; there's only the two extreme ends and those ends are defined by a singular issue. I am very suspicious of this; I seriously doubt it's true. I think people are lying about their real beliefs. That being said, I'll drop the entire matter. If people are lying to each other, then the issue is too charged to get much useful feedback AND, what's more likely, is that I'll get flamed.

That's why it's the only thing I can think of that would be basis for deciding what a hypothetical "centrist" position would be for self-described youth libs.I think you're fine and haven't said anything offensive, but if you want to drop the topic, I'll respect that
