I've been blogging quotations from people since 2006, and I just realized I'm not sure if I've ever seen anyone else running a "quotations" blog in the same way. @simon I see people doing this with tools like Obsidian, but that's more for personal consumption and not quite as public (though it can be, depending on one's knowledge management tool of choice).

@simon I've kept a commonplace book since the 1990s. It started as a PC word processing document, became a fortune-format file, and now is in XML at https://github.com/akuchling/quotations/blob/master/quotations.xml . (Probably its final form...)

@simon I’m wanting to add “short form” (mostly quotes => link outs) to my blog. What’s underneath your weblog and how do you edit those little guys? My content editing for longform is just md with a little Hugo templating magic when needed …. Could do the same for little ones I suppose …

@simon It looks like the XML to JSON conversion is stopping when it encounters an <em> tag; see the 4th quote for Erik Naggum, which is truncated. Similarly, the many occurrences of source="In " is because it's stopping on <cite>. You could probably just strip out <em>, <cite>, and replace <br/> with a newline or whitespace. I've broken the link to the DTD, so I don't remember what the other formatting elements were; I'll try to fix that this evening.
