Journalists are demonstrating their most craven instincts -- and feebleness in the face of attacks on what they do -- by staying on Musk's site. They've doubled down on their support of his company even when, as @caseynewton, points out, he's "shitting all over them." https://www.platformer.news/p/why-journalists-cant-quit-twitterThis makes me profoundly sad, and pessimistic about a craft that I still revere, or want to.

Dear journalists: You could make a graceful exit from Musk's site. You could bring your following -- or at least most of it -- to Mastodon. You could regain a measure of self-respect. Some thoughts on that from late last year: https://www.techdirt.com/2023/01/04/journalists-and-others-should-leave-twitter-heres-how-they-can-get-started/

@dangillmor On a related note, wondering if any tech-savvy state or county governments, federal agencies, or other nations have set up Mastodon servers / instances.

@ShutterbugDoug That's a crucial link in the chain, and I don't know of any. Would be great to see a volunteer system to help them do this.
