@clive @Andrewhinton @argonaut How bizarre. It’s very unlikely that everyone uses the specific truck features — so why is this happening? Is it a rural thing? Or, if not, is it a social phenomenon, a way to project power, or to feel safe? I simply don’t get it.

@ShamylZakariya @Andrewhinton @argonaut @Kitone Yeah My grandfather ran a dairy farm using a truck that, in the 70s, had a longer (and thus more usable) bed that was slung closer the ground (which also makes things easier to get in and out of the bed) and was probably 2/3 the heft of these monsters

@Kitone @clive @Andrewhinton @argonaut How so?! This is an apples v oranges comparison. Europe and America are two different landscapes. I wouldn’t own a truck in Europe or Asia. But definitely in America, Middle East, Oceania or Africa

@eax @Kitone @clive @argonaut It’s not the fact that it’s a pickup truck that’s so much the issue, but the enormous size — my dad built houses as a general contractor and carpenter for decades driving a truck half that size

@eax @Andrewhinton @Kitone @argonaut Yep yep I was just saying in another part of this thread that I used to go to my grandfathers dairy farm on the weekends and ride around in the bed of his truck — back in the 70s it was far more useful (longer bed, lower bed) and yet far, far smaller than these wild vehicles
