I've only read some of it but my biggest objections to his ideas is that as you said we can't go back and even if we did, unless the entire world including jews and chinese went back with us we'd just end up getting out competed. There are a lot of problems with industrial society but the only way for us to fix those problems is through intentional governmental policies which try to adapt industrial life to the needs of the people.Problem is our government doesn't care for our well being one bit and actually sees pur suffering as a positive.

I gained weight because of circumstances outside of my control. I wasn't even "fat" for an American but I was overweight and it started to show. I got sick of seeing myself in the mirror and lost like 80 pounds in over the course of half a year just from dieting. I gained some of it back because I had neglected working out but I'm losing it again.I want to stress that I wasn't even that fat. I was skinnier than a lot of people but I still felt disgusting. IDK how ppl can be obese and not decide to do something about it...

It is perhaps true that in some ideal fantasy world utility could come without a cost, but the main determiner of how things play out is the inherent limits of human psychology. What is physically possible matters significantly less than what is psychologically possible. It can be said that small utilities have a small effect, which is true, but we have passed that point long ago.As for AI I think there's many problems. First is the simple physical problem that any truly intelligent AI would require neuroplasticity which seems to be impossible with circuitry. Perhaps it would be possible to solve that but I see no reason to believe that it's possible. It would also have to be trained in every single human domain which would be extremely difficult, and be able to comprehend all those different domains, and be able to interface with the world (likely through programming/hacking computers.) I don't see any reason to believe it's possible or likely other than religious faith in the power of human innovation. But I personally do not believe Man is God and do not believe Man can create it's own God, and I see no legitimate reason to ever believe that.

Thanks. It's been a reoccurring struggle and my end goal (have visible abs) is still a bit away but I've made a lot of progress and I feel like I have a good shot at getting there if I stick to it.But just not seeing a chubby person in the mirror feels so good. So many people told me I wasn't fat or looked fine when I mentioned I was unhappy about my weight.And then when I lost it those same people and many others were shocked at how quickly I changed.
