Must have emptied another museum for more 100 year old military equipment, also what kind of ammo do those take? I would have though that would be an issue using them today?

@Boomerman @Terry @LightifRenais @PonyPanda maxims were made in tons of calibers for anyone who'd buy one. .30-06 was invented long after the maxim gun

@Terry @PonyPanda @LightifRenais @Royper tbh if you're not moving it anywhere after it's emplaced the maxim design really hasn't been improved upon. things are stupid reliable and better at sustained fire than LMG/ GPMGs due to the water cooling

@Terry @PonyPanda @LightifRenais Honestly though if it’s only to defend a fixed position the maxim is kind of fine for that job. Water jacket means no barrel changes they may be old as dirt but they seem to keep on trunk’n. It’s only bad if your position gets pushed and you have to pull back so you’d have to abandon the gun.

@Terry @Royper @PonyPanda @LightifRenais The 7.62x54R is an objectively obsolete caliber because of its rim. The 7.62x51 NATO is objectively better it has better performance and is rimless so it feeds better into gund

@Groomschild @Terry @PonyPanda @LightifRenais Be America: spend millions developing increasingly niche cartridges for various applications.Be Russian: use cartridge from the late 1800s. PKM can engage targets at 1000m and has done so since the 1970s Bullet is fine comrade

The rimlock on a Mosin can be kind of annoying if you don't load it right unfortunately.
