I have finally blocked the entire domain bird.makeup. I mean, what's the point? All the alt texts are missing as well.

@rolle Bird Makeup? Never heard about it. Why would a bird need makeup anyway? 😂 Just kidding. I don't know what that instance is about but if you blocked it, I suppose it's something I really don't need to be curious about

@Ryuken_san It replicates the whole Twitter here. You can follow Twitter users as they were here, their retweets show up as boosts etc. natively. The only thing is, they won't see your replies. You will see the replies of the Twitter users and Mastodon users normally though. The downside also is: "Omg this user is on Mastodon!"... Until you realize it's just a birdbot ghost user of a Twitter account.

@rolle Aahhhhh I know this tool, I think it's called BirdsiteLive and there are several instances of it.They're all blocked on my current instance and on most instances I think.I used to use it 2 years ago when I was starting on Mastodon and I still wanted to see some content from Twitter. At the time, it was allowed on mastodon.social

@Ryuken_san @rolle I tried using this for a few account when I first came back here last year and let me tell you, the delay is AWFUL!It would be 7 - 8 hours at least before the messages would show up here, and when they did, they all showed up at the same time. Meaning, if one account posted 20 times and another account posted 40 times, you'd get 60 posts from those two users in a matter of seconds. Such a pointless/useless thing.

@CliffWade I think it was because that BirdsiteLive instance was maybe too saturated. When I was looking for one, two years ago, most of them were over-saturated already, I suppose it could explain why there was such a delay 🤔@rolle

@Ryuken_san @rolle Very well could be as that would certainly make sense. It's a neat idea if it were to work as intended but there are so many other bot services that do it now that do it considerably better.

@Ryuken_san It's an advanced fork of Birdsitelive. https://git.sr.ht/~cloutier/bird.makeup

@CliffWade @rolle Yeah it's better when it's a real Mastodon account set as a bot here.On my instance, there's at list two bots like these that post regularly "the secure relationship" and something about anxiety. And of course there's an instance that provides sports bots that mirror big sports accounts from Twitter, and I must admit I really appreciate this.If I had my own instance, I'd definitely set up my own bot to mirror some manga news accounts from Twitter

@Ryuken_san @rolle I get a lot of news from the bots that press.coop provide. They have tons of accounts and there's no delay or anything and it works very well. Definitely something I appreciate us having access to here.

@rolle Ah so there should be no delay problems with this. But I'm sure it'll be blocked sooner or later on Ohai (if it's not already done) so I won't use it, it's against my instance policy I think

@Ryuken_san It is like that. <anytwitteraccount>@bird.makeup and voila. But as @CliffWade the delay is sometimes terrible. The technology doesn't bother me but the whole idea itself. Why see tweets here when the users are not here anyway...

@CliffWade @rolle Definitely useful!I always say that in order to forget about Twitter for good, all we need is (1) a circle of friends, and (2) the "official" content from various domains that we like and that don't exist yet on Mastodon.

@rolle @CliffWade Yeah you're right, Roni. They're like "ghost" users, we can't interact with them.Imo, those services are only useful for non personal accounts, like a football club or a website that only post news about manga, or comic books etc.

@rolle BIO profiles: "If you find this service useful, please consider supporting us via our Patreon."Fuck, no. I see them as bots. Why authors think this was a good idea if they don't reply or engage with users at all. This is a useless bridge just because it supports ActivityPub.
