What I find most interesting about the Trimp indictment and its immediate aftemath, is republicans seem to be hitching themselves to Trump again. They are just now taking the onramp, but it’s clear they will try to intimidate all involved in the prosecution. They are now stuck with him, and can’t claim political prosecution on this, but not the next, or the next. That sets up a scorched earth path attempting to kill the judiciary etc. etc. If successful, what’s left won’t be a democracy.

@EarlDGray I think they know he will lose but know that they will be able to use it with the whackos of their base. Won't necessarily have to support him again.

@Myphatself But as long as he is in the race, his base won’t stray. If that happens he will be the nominee, jail or not. The republican primaries are a different animal. Much more right-wing than the general electorate. But backing him now is going to paint them in a corner. They can’t back him on this indictment and then change their minds or they will lose his fanatic voters. That works dir hiuae or senate, but not nationally.

@EarlDGray Someone else theorized that they are all fighting to scorn the indictment because they are afraid of what he might reveal about them if they fall out of favor.

@EarlDGray it was always the plan either way. This isn’t a fight we can duck any longer.

@Cassandra Possible but I doubt it. Trump has eluded but DeSantis etc. are destined for a head to head with him soon. That would certainly bring on any “dirt” he had anyway. More likely they understand 30% is hoplessly devoted to Trump, and know they can’t win a primary without them. They will deal with tomorrow when it comes. What they are missing, is Trump is like touching flypaper. You can’t let go when you want. And assuming more charges come, it will be too late then.
