The new stuff in the Twitter algorithm is wild. I'm a bit surprised at how many "well, actually, these are just metrics" replies I'm getting that seem to find the spirit of this comment plausible after (just for example), Elon asked why his engagement was dropping and then fired Twitter's most senior remaining engineer for telling him it's not a bug, which was followed by people seeing a lot more Elon in their feed and people also report seeing way more Republican stuff in their feed.

Like, how do you think ranking works? There are models/weights that determine a tweet's ranks that haven't been released and we know, e.g., Elon tweets, are now extremely highly weighted.The NYT reported that Elon tweets have 1000x weight and the fatigue filter is disabled, but let's say their sources are wrong and there is no explicit special casing in ranking.It's still the case that people report seeing way more Elon than before. How do you think this metrics data is being used?

@chancerydaily @yoyoel @danluu i love that he's claiming he's just learning of this now. i wonder if it will ever occur to him that the remaining people there are all just bending over backwards to try to keep him and him alone happy, and maybe that's not great for everyone else on the site...

@mmasnick @chancerydaily @yoyoel @danluu How much you wanna bet there's tons of "driver_is_elon" code in the Tesla... so as he does various things it just is constantly dazzling him (think FSD), but these things are very flaky, are error-prone and high-risk and the NHTSA would go apeshit if they knew

I've lived and worked on a working visa for close to 15 years, knowing if I lose my job my whole life here in Japan folds within 3 months and any length of stay accumulated towards residence eligibility will be lost. I can tell you, it makes you compromise. There's shit I've put up with here that I never would've tolerated with residency.
