Someone just tried to scam me to send my MacBook and wait for payment to be released :lego_laugh: NEVER DO THAT. Mail from a 'bank' ending with @mail.com a business WhatsApp account I mean c'mon you have to get up much earlierI scared the shit out of him, said i hacked his accounts and i will publish his personal data online bla blaI haven't but such people deserve a heart attack every once in a while..

Just some little tips:- The bank doesn't send mails and if it does ALWAYS check the sender email, especially the domain.tld (this can be spoofed but it's a check)- If the buyer/seller wants contact via WhatsApp check the account, if it's a business account that acts like a personal big chance it's FAKE.DO NOT click on links they send you unless you are SURE it's the right adress for a payment etc Always think twice or ten times before clicking on sketchy URLs

@stux Many many years ago (15?) in the early days of the Internet, I got back at a scammer that took my money by "reverse tracking" them and performing what is known today as a "DNS attack", getting them kicked off their host server (but nearly getting myself kicked off my own as well.)

@fs4c Tell them in a 'high standard' with many technical terms you are a pentester or security researcher and they got the wrong fish or somethingAfter that: "Oh, I see you reuse the same password often. That makes it a lot easier"that often works since its unfort true many times

@stux A personal high point for me.I'd been added to a group selling an investment mentorship scheme.I was sending the Waterloo section of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables a few paragraphs at a time every time someone sent a message flogging a scam in the group 🤣

@stux I need to do a write up actually - things got pretty damn hilarious!I have complicated thoughts on scammers. With the wealth disparity I can understand why they don't feel very bad about doing it, but it's also an absolutely horrible way to exploit the vulnerable. I don't believe in taking out righteous retribution on them like some do. But if they're gonna fuck with me I'm gonna fuck with them. I think the more their time gets wasted the less worth it it will be for them.I want to popularise spamming the spammers with classic literature! 😆
