Republicans, as theorized by Birch, took great care of invading school board to control the latest and make sure progress won't move forward. Everytime your government closes a public school or makes university less accessible, you're one step closer to that. @stux Yep, I wouldnāt recommend moving here now. Maybe within the next decade the GOP flameout will be complete, but til it actually gets driven from power (if God willing we can get there) weāve got some stuff to slog through, and everyone is at risk in the meantime. Marginalized folks in particular.

@stux About a month ago, my kidsā school went into lockdown. It turned out to be a āprankā; someone called in a false alarm. No one knew that at the time, though, and everyone was scared shitless. My daughter teared up when telling us about it later, about how scared she was. She said, āWe didnāt know, and this is America, so I just thought, āAm I gonna die today?āā Sheās 15. I hate it here.

@stux Iām and American with a family and Iāve strongly considered leaving the country. The biggest hurdle is finding another country that would be easy to emigrate to and locking down a job there as well.

@stux It's a tough fight but we'll get there. The problem with hiding from the truth is that it's always looking for you. This will pass, but it may be a number of years before it does. If trump loses in 2024, it will be a solid nail in that coffin.

@stux @wonkothesane Iām Canadian and I live about a 15-minute walk to a US-bound ferry and I havenāt been in the States in a decade. (Spent 5 years in that time as a nomad and visited 25 countries.)I just find it hard to want to visit, even if Washington is a ānice state,ā because itās just too easy for gun violence to erupt.
