I threw the landline phone away last night as 𝗦𝗢𝗚𝗘𝗔 went live Monday. Of course, now I can't walk past the hall cupboard without thinking, "That looks bare!" stupid, really, as we rarely used the damn thing.

@unklebonehead Mate, for the last three days, I've had to buy something extra at the local shop so I can use my phone to make a purchase (Minimum spend £3) because I had no cash at all, not even coins.

@unklebonehead I don't think we will have hard currency, though. It wouldn't surprise me to see everything become electronic payments by 2040. A good indicator will be the demise of ATM machines. Indeed, in the UK, we're seeing bank branches closing left-right and centre.

@dick_turpin I'm all for it. But it needs to be as easy and untraceable as fiat paper for me. Nobody should have to explain what they do with their possessions to anybody.

@unklebonehead How can you say that when you see what's going on with the web these days? I suspect by the year 2090, there will be Blade Runners or Sandman who'll hunt down people "outside the systems", and you'll all have microchip implants to keep tabs on you all. I suspect I'll be dead by then unless they manage to perfect my "Robot Pete" scenario? 🤣
