@stux Former leader. Utkin, not Prigozhin.Utkin wasn't exactly subtle; he had an SS tattoo.

@stux Tall scary-looking guy to the far right of Putin.Wagner was pretty small back then, and not very militarily significant. It's grown dramatically under Prigozhin.

@stux Not to diminish on the Wagners group evil nature, or deny that nazi's loved Wagners music, but Wagner the composer died 6 years before Hitler was born....

@stux Basically, the Russian government's only line of defense there is "We are not Germany".For some reason, that doesn't get a lot of traction outside of Russia.

@stux remember when Alex Dugin's daughter got car bombed? She was chief editor at the Wagner-run "United World International" propaganda site.

@stux Richard Wagner was before Hitler, he died in 1883. I think he was quite antisemitic, but so was the society. His music did however feature many references to the model ages and old German tales, which (combined with the fact that his descendant were devoted nazis) lead to Hitler being invested in the Bayreuth Festivals and visiting them quite often.I donโ€™t know if the music itself is that problematic, though and I think the Festival now tries to be apolitical.

@stux Paar weken geleden weidde Zembla een aflevering aan de Wagner groep en diens oprichter Utkin. Misschien kun je die nog ergens terug vinden op NPO start.

@stuxYou know the music that the air cavalry in Apocalypse Now blast from loudspeakers in the helicopters? That's Wagner. The nazis liked him, but they liked Beethoven too. He was problematic, but calling him "the composer of Hitler" is a tad inaccurate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn37QfXw1-E@wvrede

@stux logic, unfortunately, is a poor weapon when fighting propaganda & mass marketing which relies on:1) Repetition 2) short catchy talking points3) Repetition 4) emotion5) Repetition 6) group identity bias 7) Repetition
