No other high-income country suffers the high death toll from gun violence we do. Narrow reform won’t stop it.The US has a lot of guns, and more guns mean more gun deaths. It’s not a mental health issue.A good guy with a gun is a fallacy. So is “self defense.”The Second Amendment has been misinterpreted. It’s the guns.Covenant School shooting puts focus on America’s unique, enduring gun problem-https://www.vox.com/23142734/covenant-school-nashville-mass-shootings

@TonyStark A child leaving home for school in the morning might not return home alive, owing to too many guns being too easily accessible to too many people who would use the guns to shoot at school children and school staff and first responders. How about my parental rights to have my kid come home alive, Republicans, if you care so much about parental rights?

@TonyStark It is the guns and the weird fetish some people have with them. They do nothing but harm. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service 8% of the population over the age of 16 hunt. If you take the percentage of gun owners in the US (which is estimated at 35% by National Survey of Private Ownership of Firearms—NSPOF), that’s a huge difference. When you look at this report from the DOJ, it’s frightening how many people own guns “just because” https://www.ojp.gov/pdffiles/165476.pdf

@Porpentina2017 That is my experience. The gun owners that I know/knew were primarily collectors who pretend that they are serious owners. The hunters I know, the people who spend their time hunting and using tools to hunt - all think the gun laws in this country are too lax and ridiculous.OBVIOUSLY it's anecdotal and should not be considered empirical, but its a delineation point that drives into motivation.@TonyStark

@mentallyalex That is my experience as well. Some of the people who are gun owners for “protection” are split on gun laws. The other group that is reasonable about assault rifle bans are people who are/were military.

@mentallyalex @Porpentina2017 The problem there is with the “protection” part. Statistically, you’re more likely to hurt yourself or have a family member hurt you, hurt a friend of family member, or have yours taken and used in a way you didn’t intend. Nobody’s lives are getting saved. Fact check: Are guns used '1.5 million times per year to save lives?'-https://www.wral.com/fact-check-are-guns-used-1-5-million-times-per-year-to-save-lives/20351987/

@TonyStark It's a fake narrative on a hyper dangerous level."Good guy with a gun" is such a lottery answer. You design systems with random loot boxes when you're trying to suck money out of children. Not when you're trying to resolve murder-rates.My luck shouldn't play into legislative policy. I'm a very lucky person - I get all sorts of wonderful things happening to me. Do you guys really want ME to only experience safety? That sounds terrible. The system needs to be cold, calculated and data-driven.1 - What kills more people?2 - Why? What is the reason those people are killed at such a frequency?3 - What steps are in place to slow/stop that frequency. If it's guns? Slow the access of guns & increase awareness education. If it's diabetes? Slow the access of sugary sweets & increase nutritional education. It's that simple. Any solution that doesn't operate from that philosophy is a solution that is not prioritizing the correct things.@Porpentina2017

@TonyStark Every single one of us has gone through a temporary mental health crisis. Imagine going through that crisis with a gun within arms reach. It's guns and access to guns that is the issue, nothing else.

@mike exactly this. I'm sorry if anyone has had that trauma but it's the truth. We need laws to protect us at all times, not only at our best.@TonyStark

@Rakielxx71 @TonyStark My eldest was in kindergarten when Sandyhook happened (2012).My kids have endured active shooter drills and gun threat lockdowns their whole educational life.I count the days at the end of school year when I know we’re so close to not going to school. Uvalde is the nightmare.Happily, the kindergarten class of 2012 is turning 18 and graduating next year. They will be voting in the 2024 election. It’s time to rock the vote!Pass it on.

@Pepper @TonyStark Their "parental rights" schtick is just a ploy. As DeSantis is shown, you only have the right to raise your children the way Republicans think you should. Deviate from that, and you forfeit everything.

@ScottSoCal @Pepper @TonyStark Yeah, it's so horrible how shitlibs and trannyfags aren't free to brainwash, molest and mutilate their kids...
