@EdBoatConnoisseur Because there's a good chance that this is because communication went bad for some reason.You have to be proactive when it comes to this. I usually follow up either in one week or 1-2 business days after they said something would happen.

@monsterislandcolonizer Usually I like to give an extra business day's worth of slack on these things.It's a little moot because (as I said upthread) the recruiter texted me about it, so I'm prodding them through the recruiter tomorrow (then if I don't hear anything, I'll try to call them Wednesday).Waiting an extra week is obviously fucked, but waiting a few days is reasonable depending on the job (this is a 6 figure job, and it is entirely reasonable that hiring discussions are just taking longer than anticipated.)

Particularly bad companies get reputations.I've told friends of mine about companies which:1) Simply ghosted me2) Wanted to pay me a teacher's salary for a serious high-stress dev job3) Wanted to hire me to look at gore (they were professional about it to be fair, but jesus fuck)You really do have to name companies that do these things, because poor practices should lead to poor outcomes. I wouldn't recommend doing that *here*, but I absolutely tell colleagues to not apply to certain companies because of their hiring practices.
