几个月之前跟一个学生去了church(算是做了一点ethnography)一个人不出所料地问我where are you from 在我说了Los Angeles 之后还是不满意所以问were you born there? 我说 I was born in China. 然后她很满意地点了点头说I thought so too 于是我反问 what about you? 她说I’m from here 我又问 but were you born in Pennsylvania?

我在这边也碰到过一回,还是一个课上老师让所有学生回答where they are from, 而且特别强调这个是问where they were born, and where they grew up. 。。

@JennyJade @bobboyle

@spring_is_late @bobboyle 就是这种感觉。 后面这个were you born there就有点awkward了。 English is not my first language,

@JennyJade @bobboyle 确实,这种追问已经很让人不悦,我还知道有人会追问 “Where are you REALLY from?”

@bobboyle @essally Where are you from? What is your country of origin?
