Two or three weeks ago, @jcrabapple suggested that I give YouTube Music a fair try, especially since I already subscribed to YouTube Premium. As a Spotify premium user since the day Spotify became available in the US, I knew this was going to be difficult to stick with YTM.I broke down and forced myself to give it a try and I must say, I'm quite happy with it. It's a different experience at first until it learns your listening habits, but then it gets good.(cont...)#YouTubeMusic #Spotify

I've discovered some good music that I might not have discovered with Spotify which is nice because I'm always looking for new music to listen to since I love to listen to most anything that has a good beat and good sound to it.What was really nice was, I transferred my Spotify playlist over to YouTube Music without any issues so I could just start listening to what I normally listened to on Spotify and that helped YTM learn my listening habits to suggest new stuff to me.

@CliffWade I had the opposite experience, especially compared to Google Music. Google Music was great, it allowed me to mix up my uploaded music (tend of thousands of tracks, some of which isn't on any platform and likely never will be) with suggested music. I stuck with YouTube Music after the change for a few years, and then I noticed it wasn't really serving up much they was new. It was playing a lot of the same stuff over and over.

@CliffWade I switched to Deezer and it did a good job of learning my preferences. I like the discovery and auto playlists. But it doesn't have as big of a catalog, some music I like is missing. And it's a French service, so it mixes in a dose of non-English music (some is good, some is not my thing).

@rivetgeek I tried Deezer a while back and wasn't a fan of it at all to be honest.

@CliffWade Deezer is starting to show some warts. It's hard when musical taste is truly "eclectic". I like specific things of certain styles or bands without liking them in general, but others I like practically everything they do. And my range is really wide.

@rivetgeek I'm the same way. I like a little bit of all types of music. While I might not like an entire band, I often like a few songs here and there.

@CliffWade I think what's missing from YouTube Music is what Deezer calls Flow. Flow mixes in favorites with different songs that it thinks matches your preferences. If the Supermix in Youtube Music does that, it doesn't mix stuff in often.

@rivetgeek Hmm, I'm not familiar with that feature. Let me tag @jcrabapple in on this as he might know if that's something YTM does or can do.

@CliffWade@allthingstech.social @jcrabapple I admit I may be an edge case. Part of my "eclecticness" is I often only have the vaguest notion of what I want to listen to at any given time. I grew up listening to the radio. But when I start playing something like the Supermix or any of the daily mixes, I don't want to necessarily only hear my favorites or stuff from my collection. Even when I start a radio mix from a particular band, YTM will eventually revert to mixing in the same old stuff.

@CliffWade @rivetgeek My "Supermix" always has some pretty out-of-left-field stuff on it, most of which I end up liking. I also love the Discover mix. I've found quite a few new artists from that.I also enjoy starting a station from a song. That sometimes ends up giving me something I haven't heard before or in a while.
