OK so I have checked back the EU right to repair proposalit's not a right to repair proposal, it's just a "manufacturers have to offer 10 years of support" proposalwow that sucks

@wilmhit The only advantage I see is that you can keep paying Apple to replace your Macbook for 10 years instead of 2 or 3 or 5. It even seems to me like MORE waste could be generated like this…

@xerz doesn't that also dictate that replacement parts should be available during support period?

@wilmhit yes but they can replace the entire thing instead of repairing only the damage if they claim it's cheaper

@wilmhit (OK, it DOES seem to provide parts for others to use, but I'm still concerned about pricing and potential legal barriers)

@xerz independent workshops will still use those parts. There is also an more global effect. Many people won't buy new device until current one is out of support. Bringing current specs 10 years into the future and slowing market as a whole.

I read once more and I have no idea what a "professional repairer" is and if individual customers will be excluded from repair parts

I have no idea if I have to worry about that, or if platforms like Mouser and RS will just start selling these as usual

It seems Right to Repair Europe is only really concerned about spare part pricing and not availability per se https://repair.eu/news/not-yet-accessible-affordable-nor-mainstream-campaigners-tighten-the-screw-on-new-eu-right-to-repair-proposal/
